Wilco is an elderly care physician, Professor of institutional care and elderly care medicine at PHEG LUMC, and chair of the University Network for the Care sector South-Holland (UNC-ZH). He is the PI on quality of life and dying in dementia, with 6 PhD students. He focuses on symptoms such as pain and behaviour along with cognitive impairment. He chaired the Dutch guideline Pain in Vulnerable Elderly, and was vice-chair of the EU-COST action on Pain and Impaired Cognition which resulted in strong collaborations with Norway (Dr. Husebo). He is part of the scientific advisory committee of the Dutch Huntington patient society and a board member of the Dutch patient organisation “Pijnplatform.”
